Why Your Business Should Consider In-App Payments

The number of apps supporting Apple Pay® is growing at a faster rate than the number of retailers supporting the mobile payment service. In-app payments refer to the purchase of goods and services from within an application on a smartphone or tablet. As customers continue to spend more time on their mobile devices, in-app payments are becoming a popular way for businesses to boost sales. If you’re considering adding a mobile app to your business or offer an app without payments integration, turning it into a sales channel may be easier than you think.

How Does it Work?

The process for making an Apple Pay in-app purchase is easy and convenient. After preloading their billing and shipping information into Apple Pay, customers can initiate a purchase in-app with the touch of the Apple Pay button. Their preloaded information will appear on screen, after which they place their finger over the TouchID® sensor to complete payment. This final step helps to authenticate the cardholder’s identity and enhance the security of the transaction.

How to Integrate In-App Payments

So what does your business need to do to integrate Apple Pay into your mobile app? The answer is surprisingly simple. Developers need to make a small code update to add the in-app payments feature.  At Moneris®, we offer two integration methods to help make your developer’s job easier.

  1. Your first option is integration with a Software Development Kit (SDK), which is a package that contains the development tools you need. It is a simple way to integrate Apple Pay into your mobile application and an ideal choice for small to medium-sized businesses that do much of the application development on their own.
  2. Option two is integration through an Application Programming Interface (API). This process is a little more complex and better suited for businesses with previous experience using APIs or who outsource their app development to specialized partners.

With the new and improved Moneris Developer Portal, developers now have easier access to the Moneris Apple Pay SDK and API, as well as other payment integration tools and resources. The newly designed portal features regularly updated information, full search capabilities, and an interactive knowledgebase to help get your solutions to market.

It’s important to consider adding new payment capabilities to your business, especially as the market for mobile solutions continues to evolve. In-app payments are redefining the checkout experience as a simple, cost-effective way to reach new and existing customers.
