Quick tips on how to properly accept cards on your POS device to help minimize chargebacks

Preferred method – Chip and PIN or Contactless

Use chip and pin whenever possible

  • Insert the card into the chip reader
  • Have the customer input the PIN

Using tap to pay is another secure way if you have a contactless POS device (only recommended for purchases smaller than the Card Brand’s specified amount)

If Chip and PIN or Contactless is not available, the alternative is to swipe the card

  • Swipe the card
  • Press OK for authorization
  • Print receipt
  • Customer signs
  • Compare signed receipt side by side with the back of credit card
