George Devos opened Devos Furniture (now Chairs & More) in Chatham, Ontario, in 1981. His son Ryan Devos worked at the company as a teenager and took over the independent, family run business when his parents retired in 1996. He wants to preserve his dad’s legacy – ensuring that Chairs & More remains a trusted source for quality furniture. They sell everything from accent chairs to sofas and recliners, with a focus on locally crafted pieces.

Ryan developed a keen sense of how to keep customers happy. Generations of families have returned to Chairs & More, lured back by quality furniture and hand-me-down reviews. He said the store always had a steady stream of repeat customers, but tough economic times and a changing retail landscape made him consider how to strengthen customer loyalty. “I knew in order to stay competitive, I’d have to adapt. I needed a way to reward my repeat customers and attract new business,” he said.
Small Budget. Big Dreams.
When it came to products to help promote his store, Ryan found that those tailored for small businesses often fell short. “I’ve always valued using tools that help my business stand out,” he said. “I wanted to make sure every investment I made in Chairs & More would be right for my business long term.” Without the marketing budget of a national retailer, he needed a solution that was familiar to customers, well priced and easy to install.
Flying high with Moneris AIR MILES reward miles Program
Ryan wanted to generate new business, but he didn’t want to rush the decision. When he heard that small businesses could now offer AIR MILES through Moneris, the choice was easy.
“I realized the value the AIR MILES brand carries with customers. Being able to accept it at my own store put me on the same level as some of the larger retailers,” he said.
Up and Running
After signing up for the AIR MILES program, it took just over a week until he issued his first reward mile to a customer. “Chairs & More has been a Moneris customer since my Dad first opened shop,” he said. “I’ve always been impressed with the speed and level of service.” Once he received his welcome package, it took just a few minutes to set up the AIR MILES program on his existing Moneris terminal. After a few key strokes he was ready to issue reward miles as easy as processing any other payment card.
Once set up, the next thing Ryan did was put the AIR MILES logo in his front window. Soon customers began telling him how excited they were to start receiving reward miles at his store. And with comprehensive reporting, he can track the success of his loyalty program. “Within four months I was issuing more than four times the reward miles I did when I first started the program. Now I can get back to focusing on my customers and providing them the quality furniture they want.”
